Magic? Check. Swordfights? Check. Shakespeare? YES! We finally have a trailer for Julie Taymor's The Tempest with Helen Mirren. And we're very very happy.
In Julie Taymor's version of Shakespeare's play The Tempest, Prospero is Prosper-a, and a powerful sorceress played by Helen Mirren. Set in Elizabethen, and enchanted, times, this version does not have Robbie the Robot or Leslie Nielson, but promises to be just as much of a reimagining as the sci-fi flick Forbidden Planet. Just check out the amazing special effects sequences that show how much Taymor has grown visually (she played around with them in Across the Universe as well) since her gory, violent rendition of Shakespeare's Roman tragedrama Titus in 1999.
The Tempest also stars Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Djimon Hounsou, David Strathairn, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming, Ben Whishaw, Reeve Carney, Felicity Jones, and Tom Conti. It hits theatres December 10, 2010.
On one hand it looks really awesome and I wanna see it, but the middle part of the trailer had some extremely corny CGI stuff going on, so I'm wondering...
I will definitely go see it because I love Julie Taymor, she made "Frida" and I really love her movies I really love "Across the Universe" as well. I don't think the CGI is that distracting, I mean a little it is, but I have seen a lot worst.
