Yes, There Will Be A 'Carrie" Remake. No, It Will Not Be Good.

Carrie just read the script for the Carrie remakeRoberto Aguirre-Sacasa, playwright and comic book writer, is writing a remake of Carrie. The 1970s horror movie. That one. Yes.

Supposedly, Aguirre-Sacasa's version will be truer to King's book than the 1976 film was. He wrote the graphic novel version of the King novel The Stand, so I guess he feels like he's an expert, or something, on how to change things and try to make them simpler and with big pictures. He was brought on board to save the disastrous Spider-Man musical, and he also wrote Spider-Man comics...

I don't really get it. Apparently, if you write comic books, you are qualified to write a screenplay, write fucking lyrics to a song for a musical, and to write for TV. Especially if you're friends with the right people, apparently.

Yay! A Fucking Carrie Remake! Just what Carrie Needed! Can they please do it with some generic, talentless bitch in the lead role? May I suggest Emma fucking Roberts?

They already did a tv remake starring Angela Bettis. They also had "The Rage."

Signifying my devotion to Ms. Bettis, I own the DVD of her Carrie, and she's the only good thing about it.

De Palma's flick isn't different enough from the book to justify that excuse as a hook on which to hang the remake. The problem with remaking this is that the original film itself is deemed a classic. Anything made will be held up against the original and will be found lacking. Same thing happened when they remade The Shining. Kubrick's film isn't the book, but it's an amazing film on its own. There's no "real" reason to remake this, except that it has name recognition and will sell because of that.

Maybe if they get an awesome director to make the film his own. When told about this, King said, "I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg." That sounds good to me!

The comic/graphic novel version of The Stand is pretty good and faithful to King's work. So at least we should be spared a remake that comes off more Twilight than Carrie.

Here's hoping....

I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and It. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book.

Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg.”

King said that to Entertainment Weekly.
