Granik's Ozark thriller Winter's Bone wins another film festival. Seriously.
Winter's Bone already won at Sundance 2010, Berlinale, the Gotham Awards, Palm Springs, and was nominated 7 times in The Independent Spirit Awards. Now it just won best feature at the 28th annual Turin Film festival.
It seems like actress Jennifer Lawrence may be in the running with Natalie Portman for a best actress nomination at the Oscars. Now, don't get me wrong; I think the Oscars are a load of bullshit, I really do. They're voted on by about 5000 people who are all bullshit artists who vote for their friends. Why I do care about an Oscar nomination for Granik, her film, and her actress is that it'll change the notion that women-directed genre movies aren't good or worth making. If you take into consideration last year's The Hurt Locker by first-ever best director female Kathryn Bigelow, you can see that anyone who talks shit about female directors is just a douchebag who isn't paying attention to the truth.
