In an article that concerned Megan Fox's firing from the Transformer film series, the Huffington Post cited a quote from Shia LaBeouf on the matter; one he apparently voiced in an LA Times article that read:
Quote:
Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women," LaBeouf told the Los Angeles Times. "Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It's summer. It's Michael's style. And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it. This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it. When Mike would ask her to do specific things, there was no time for fluffy talk. We're on the run. And the one thing Mike lacks is tact. There's no time for [LaBeouf assumes a gentle voice] 'I would like you to just arch your back 70 degrees.'
OK, maybe it's a crazy first name/sometime model solidarity thing, but I do kind of like Megan Fox--and I do realize that there are seeds of sensitivity in the statements, "This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it....And the one thing Mike lacks is tact." However, overall I find this quote troubling on a lot of levels.
1. A woman who discovers her feminism is automatically a Spice Girl. Cool; I hereby demand a cut of their royalties and a date with a hot British soccer player.
2. What word did they have to replace with [stuff] in the phrase female empowerment [stuff]? Like I really have to ask.
3. If an actress commands respect, she's asking for 'fluffy talk.' If she wanted Michael Bay to give her a pedicure each morning and deliver a shipment of beanie bears and plenty of chocolate (because, snort, the chick was probably PMSing) by 2 p.m. each afternoon, that would be "fluffy.
4. If a movie is made or presented during the summer season, women should be filmed with their backs arched at 70 degrees.
5. No one has made a big deal of these quotes. If this or any actor had said, "I worked with Morgan Freeman and he developed this Four Tops-style, black empowerment [stuff] and expected fluffy talk from the director," he would never work in Hollywood again, and probably rightfully so. But this is Megan Fox we're talking about, right? She's a stand up doll, not a human being. What was she thinking?
What she's probably thinking now is, "Thank the fates I'm out of that [stuff]."
Today, LeBoeuf is saying the real reason that Fox was fired from Transformers 3 is that Spielberg and Bay decided she was "shit talking" Bay, when she made a comment that he was as evil as Hitler. LeBoeuf, like the frat boy, us-assholes-have-to-stik-together shithead he is, said that no one can talk that way about "the captain."
But apparently, the captain and his crew can shit-talk Megan Fox.
This [stuff] is an excellent post. While Fox made a mistake by bringing out the Hitler (Has anyone ever written a book called "Things you can never mention in public if you're a celebrity?" and sold it to the rich? Because THEY NEED IT.), you're right on in pointing out how classless The Beef is being here.
