Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood has found a mom - in the form of Virginia Madsen.
Previous announcements have pegged Amanda Seyfried to play the title role, as well as other talent to include Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas, Julie Christie, Michael Shanks, and Shiloh Fernandez. Virginia Madsen is planned to play the mother of Little Red Riding Hood.
Hardwicke's adaptation is rather appropriately set in a medieval village that is haunted by a lurking werewolf. Given Harwicke's previous work as director of Twilight, there is some speculation that the werewolf will be played by a muscular and shirtless 20-year-old man with a shaved chest. The original Little Red Riding Hood is such a perfect gothic fairy tale - with werewolves no less - that I'm willing to cut anyone some slack. I'd love another great retelling of this story!
Warner Brothers is tentatively planning Red Riding Hood to hit theaters in March of 2011. Can't wait? Go watch The Company of Wolves - currently the best theatrical adaptation out there.
