So It's Come to This: 'The Sitter'

What happened to David Gordon Green? Formerly the creator of small, well-observed films like George Washington and Undertow, Green has transformed into the supplier of crass, inane movies like Pineapple Express and Your Highness. Ever optimistic, I sit hoping the next film will prove Green has cleared his system of whatever caused this change. I guess I'll have to keep waiting, because now we have The Sitter (in theaters December 9).

Starring the wildly overexposed Jonah Hill, The Sitter looks to be essentially the Judd Apatow stoner version of Adventures in Babysitting. Along for the raunchy high jinks are Ari Graynor, Jessica Hect, Method Man and past Green playmate Sam Rockwell. And I wouldn't be surprised if we get a cameo from Danny McBride somewhere.

The trajectory of Green's career seems backward. Usually, filmmakers break in with flicks like The Sitter in hopes of making films like George Washington. Hey, it's his career. Green is free to make these disappointing movies as long as people line up for them. We'll see how much longer that happens.

The red-band trailer for The Sitter (embedded below, courtesy of IGN) features the newer, slimmer Jonah Hill, doing the standard Jonah Hill shtick, introducing the preview via an obvious comedy bit that hopes to milk laughs by having Hill trade inappropriate barbs with some kids. Needless to say, it fails.

It's odd how Green has gone from precious indie darling to the purveyor of dick-and-fart stoner comedies. Especially when, early in his career, he had the nerve to call out Kevin Smith for making immature slacker comedies and "lowering the bar" for indie film.

And he's still threatening to remake SUSPIRIA, which makes him an even bigger douche.

Thanks for mentioning that. I didn't really think I could fit it in this piece, but it's kind of ironic that he said that, eh?

And he better not touch my Suspiria...

This is just horrible. Seth Green and Jonah Hill need to go away.

If you're ugly and can't act, you should at least be funny. These men are not funny.

Don't you mean Seth Rogan? lol . What I find funny about Jonah Hill is that he was talking so much shit about Brad Pitt and how he may have this great body, but he is a terrible actor. But all of a sudden while making "Moneyball" with Brad he decided to be "good friends" with him despite Brad always making fun of his weight so he lost weight. Because you know being a good friend and calling him a "Fatass" is such an encouraging thing. Plus for example, he was only able to get into the business because he is friends with Dustin Hoffman son. Of course no one really talks about that. It really pisses me off that he plays the "fat nerd" character which he isn't all that great at. He is just playing the same character in every movie and he has no real range. You know what's funny and not to knock anyone for losing weight to be healthy. It just seems though he is doing this to be apart of the A list. Even though Jonah Hill wants to act like he isn't apart of the Hollywood machine you can tell he SOOOOOO wants to be apart of it. I just really detest people who say their some kind of nerd and loser and as soon as you know it he is hanging out with Brad Pitt like they were such good friends.

Plus all his stupid little fans were complaining on the VMAs they don't think he is funny anymore because he lost weight says poor Johnah. Of course its more acceptable for a man to be overweight and that be ok and have just a little talent (or no talent). But good forbid someone like Adele who is a great singer, but apparently "not hot enough" for people to like and she is shaking up the system of not using her sexuality and not being a size 4 or less.

This movie really is a rip-off on Adventures of Baby-Sitting which is to me still a whole lot funnier than this crappy trailer.

Susperia.. Jonah Hill plays a young Dancer at an elite academy run by Danny McBride...

Jonah Hill frustrated me due to him playing the same character over and over... The Fat "Funny" Loser...that happens to be a real jerk. All his characters were purely unpleasant...Whhhyyyyy would Emma Stone's character fall for his character in Superbad? He was a cruel ass... Yet the movie wanted us to see him as a hero? In fact, the one thing I liked about Get Him To the Greek was it was the first time I found Hill to be a sympathetic guy.
