You might remember our "At Work" series based around photos from the set of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Well, in the interest of equal time, we are now (kind of) happy to present the first shots from the set of Zach Snyder's upcoming Superman flick, Man of Steel.
Snyder has taken a lot of heat lately. His latest film, Sucker Punch, collapsed under the weight of its own cool factor. So one would think that he would do whatever he could to make a Superman movie all the world (and Internet) would love. Snyder has gone so far as to declare that he is going to save Supes and even make us forget Bryan Singer's previous flick, Superman Lifts Things Returns.
But looking at the photos embedded below, it appears Snyder is going to make us forget about Singer's flick by giving us something even worse to complain about. Singer may have gotten a lot wrong, but what he did get right was Superman's costume. Sure, it was slightly different, but it was a tasteful spin on the usual Supes look.
Looking at Snyder's Superman costume, the first thing you'll probably notice, besides the fact that it sucks, is it is completely different from the classic Superman look. The major difference is that there are no red shorts. What the hell, Zach Snyder? Are you trying to make all the fanboys hate you?
I've been something of a Snyder defender over the years. And I understand wanting to update things and put your stamp on something...but Zach, baby, you don't mess with Superman's costume. What's with the piping on the sides? I think the wrist bands would work if the shorts still existed. A paranoid person might think that Snyder's co-producer Christopher Nolan was agreeing to bad choices to ensure Man of Steel is remembered less fondly than The Dark Knight Rises.
Oh well, at least the sigil is still on Superman's chest. But, damn, now it's muted, as if all the color had been sucked from the world — which, in a way, it has.
Blah I mean with the cape kind of tolerable, but not really I don't like what they have done. I guess they are trying to make it more modern, but its just not working.
