Olivia Munn, a G4 hostess on Attack of the Show and self-described 'geek' now has a new gig on The Daily Show and a book called Suck It, Wonderwoman! and we think she's awful. Why?
Yes, she's hot in a semi-Asian way. She's cute. She's softspoken. She's... boring. She's supposed to be a geek, but she isn't smart. She's supposed to be on The Daily Show, but she's not funny. She's a run-of-the-mill bland E! presenter being marketed as a 'fangirl' and frankly, I'm sick of it. I wish they'd stop trying to force me to think she's a 'geek' - she's an actress with the boring brain of an actress and the conventional beauty constantly shoved down our throats by mainstream media...
If anyone can show me a clip of Munn being genuinely funny, I'll pay then 100 bucks. But only if it's actually funny.
Anyway, her new book (conveniently co-written by someone else, meaning, someone else wrote it) is supposed to be a semi-biographical account of being a geek in the entertainment business.
Her contrived fake image and lack of humor (seriously! everytime i see her she's just pretending to be dumb or standing there like a dolt) does not work on me - maybe it works on men. BUT then again - if she's just going for men, maybe she should do Penthouse and stop trying to be a 'geek' - she'll go a lot further.

If you buy this, I hate you

Forgive me, Heidi, for I have sinned. I actually read Olivia Munn's book.
But don't panic! I got it from the library so it's not like I had to pay any money for it.
As you can imagine there's nothing particularly witty, interesting or insightful in this book. And it has more padding than Munn's wonderbra.
Conveniently, there is no actual photographic evidence of any legitimate 'geekiness' in her life before the producers of her show made her wear a Wonder Woman costume and a zillion nerds simultaneously spooged all over their keyboards.
One thing I did like was her recounting of several unpleasent encounters with an unnamed big-shot director who is so obviously Brett Ratner she may as well have just named him. I enjoyed those because I can never get enough of those 'Brett Ratner is a fat, sleazy douchebag' stories.
I have to say, I don't really have the hate-on for Olivia Munn that certain people (like Heidi) have. Sure, her schtick is transparent but she's found her niche pandering to the most gullible market apart from tween girls. And I think she should milk it for as long as she can because, let's face it, with her Chinese genes in about ten years she's going to start looking like a sharpei. Although I'm sure botox will help her out there.
Book of the year for me. 10/10
Yay! Filmdrunk has a new fan in Heidi!
Heidi may be happy to hear that not everyone is fooled by the Olivia Munn charade.
Filmdrunk, a great site I like, did a podcast where they devoted a chunk of time to dissecting her fake-ass, pandering book.
I don't have link for the podcast, except to say that it is about 56 minutes into episode 7.
You're right 1KW - that's the same actor, Shia LeBoeuf.
vat of pudding, ugh?
I saw her first appearance on the Daily Show and thought she fell flat. Maybe she'll improve with time, but her delivery was pretty bad.
However, had no idea she was marketed as some kind of geek. Coming from Hollywood, it doesn't surprise me. Of course some hot looking babe willing to jump in a vat of pudding is going to play a geek. This is the same group of people having us believe Shia LaBeouf is tough enough to be Indy's sidekick. Or that Megan Fox is an actress.
I'm really tired of this new wave "Geek Girl". They typically fail in both the "I'm sexy awesome eye candy for nerd boys" and the "I'm a genuine kick ass geek girl" departments. They typically pick the most inoffensive looking, mildly above average attractive girls who sound like they're reading off of scripts that just repeat the left over industry news or something. They're filler because if they don't employ some women soon they're missing out on the female market and the sexy market. But personally I'm insulted by how lame most of these new "Girl Gamer" icons really are. It makes us all look like we're cute airheads who need to be patronized.
Yeah, her geek credentials are pretty well non-existent. But as a pose it's no worse than all the alleged 'Scream Queens' who've never seen a horror movie made before SAW.
And she does have nice shiny hair, though...
