The trailer for Scream 4 has made its entrance and reveals among other "rules" that everyone in high school is hot, except for the nerdy boys that no one likes.
Although it is probably one of the most anticipated films of 2011 for horror fans, the trailer for Scream 4 doesn't really make me want to start dancing quite yet. The trailer goes in the expected direction of what is currently big in horror. Hand held cameras, rule breaking--it looks like it's going to be quite the display of what was good in the past decade.
Sydney is back, along with Deputy Dewey (who was probably drunk) and Gale Weathers. Our originals are also happily accompanied by a whole slew of hot teenagers just waiting to be killed. The trailer depicts Sydney back in Woodsboro coming to terms with the fact that Ghostface has returned after a 10 year absence. The new kids of Woodsboro High love movies and are all a little too attractive for me to take seriously. Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Allison Brie, and even Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell make appearances. Not to mention there are about 20 other girls that I can't keep track of. Why are there so many people in this?
The trailer promises bigger and better kills, surprising twists and probably the death of Sydney Prescott. Hey, I'm just calling it like I see it. This 4th installment is supposedly the first in a new trilogy of the series, which obviously means that a new heroine is needed to carry the torch.
Sad premonitions aside, I can't help but notice how much I hate horror films that feature an overly attractive student body. Why don't people have pimples and wear their pajamas to school? Why can't people be bigger than a size 2? Why are everyones boobs so big? It's probably the thing that will make me hate this movie the most.
Right now we don't have a lot to go on, but we do know that this installment will probably be pulling out all the stops. Even if Kevin Williamson has written it, and Wes Craven tried harder than he did in My Soul To Take, I have a feeling that Scream 4 is going to over compensate a bit too much. But is it all going to be okay because that's one of the rules? Or will people finally realize that maybe Scream is headed down a dead end?
Thoughts? Were people this beautiful in YOUR high school? Discuss.
Attractive females in my school were few and far between. Although I'm sure plenty of them thought they were. Most of them were just bitches who picked on me for being too skinny and geeky. Oh how karma is a beeeeaaaaatch!!!!! Ten years later, I still pass as very early twenties, most of them at least mid thirties. What a shame. Haha.
I went to an inner-city school where the kids regularly got in trouble for carrying switchblades or selling pot behind the gym. These type of movies always have one 'bad kid' and the rest are all preppy, clean-cut teens.
I wish casting directors would get a clue. Realism is key. I like my teenagers to have backfat or acne or chipped nail polish or greasy hair once in awhile. It really distracts me when I see gorgeous Nozema-commercial-model twentysomethings trying to convincingly play teenagers.
I find that I just don't care about this movie at all. It's weird- I have no reaction to it, really, even though it features Kristen Bell who gets a free pass forever because of Veronica Mars.
By the time Scream 3 rolled around, my love for the series was but a memory. Now, it just looks like more of the same- new rules! A new Jamie Kennedy! Characters being pretty and bored! I swear, they're even sitting in the same spots outside the school.
I sort of dig the Sydney Prescott character and it's nice to see Neve Campbell on-screen again, but I just don't much give a fuck about Scream 4.

I predict this movie will be horrible. But for die hard Scream fans, who I pity, the next issue of Horrorhound will be dedicated to it and contain retrospectives on all the films.

Well, Emma Roberts has had about ten makeovers since she was 16 and is now like 20 or 21, so she's definitely not a reliable source of teenagery. Why do they all have the same long wavy touseled hair? is that, like, the new hairdo I should be having?
I have to admit I'm going to give this the benefit of the doubt, and though I would usually shun it because Emma Roberts is in it (I babysat that bitch, who is only famous because of auntie Julia) I really want to know who the fucking killer is this time. I hope for Neve.
I really like the first one, and enjoyed the second one as well, but by the third one, I felt the series just ran out of steam. And this trailer seems to confirm my suspicions that the series as no where to go.
As for the cast, well, aside from the Scream veterans, I didn't recognize a single actor. Crap, I am getting old.
I am with you Chris, the third one was a total wreck for me. And are you saying you do not recognize Hayden Paniettere the Cheerleader from Heroes?!!!
Just kidding it's okay if you don't. I only recognize a handful of the hotties. One in particular is from Degrassi the Next Generation which was my not so secret guilty pleasure in high school.
Meh well they now they really have no where to go since their major co-stars marriage is dead. I use to love the Scream movies, I admit even the third one even though kind of sucked was ok lol. But now I have a feeling it really won't be the same anymore. Like I said they are probably going to film a death on youtube big whoop there is your 2.0 right there.

The reason Scream 3 sucked is because it had a different screenwriter than the first two (if I'm remembering correctly). And that's odd, because the writer of the first two was the same guy who wrote the incomprehensible I Know What You Did Last Summer and (what's arguably the worst movie ever made) Teaching Mrs. Tingle. But for some reason the guy could write the hell out of those Scream movies. I think he's coming back for part 4. As for part 3, I think Craven did his best with what he had - the film looked nice, the script was just shit.
Yes, Kevin Williamson is returning to write this one. He was actually a "co writer" for Scream 3---however much that means! I love Kevin Williamson, he wrote Dawsons Creek, and my new favorite gulity pleasure, The Vampire Diaries...Sigh don't judge me.
Chris--Hayden is the blonde one that looks out a window or something, she's the main girls bff. If that helps?
Oh, caught it now. Wow, that's a major haircut and the edits are so fast in the trailer that I didn't get a chance to notice her the first time. She was just another blond blur.
I kinda like the whole "new generation of horror movies, new rules" conceit, except I don't think the rules have changed that much. I guess they could do "new generation of horror, no rules," but then it's just a stab movie hanged in a Scream frame...which is most likely what we'll get.
On a lighter note, now that Sandy Bullock has graduated from her role as America's Sweetheart to America's Survivor, I nominate Kristen Bell to to take her place. Seconds?

Well, who knows with this one? Over the summer there were reports about Williamson's reduced role and lots of rewrites by...dun dun dun...the dude who wrote Scream 3. Actors started dropping out...CHAOS! MADNESS! I'm surprised we all recovered.
I suppose this all means that we'll just have to judge the movie on its own merits when it comes out, which is not The Internet way. That said, I'm still not jazzed about it.

I interviewed Emma yesterday at the Sundance premiere for her new movie Homework, co-starring Freddie Highmore. Love him. Everyone else was wearing proper winter clothing. Rita Wilson showed up in some kind of shearling wrap, bundled and appropriate.
Emma was complaining about being cold and sick. She didn’t want to do anymore press. She sulked to her publicist that she wanted to go inside. She was also only wearing an open light silk blazer over a camisole and skinny jeans. So… there’s that.
Emma is 20. Privileged. Connected. And suuuuuuch a bitch. It’s thrilling to watch.
I was her final stop before she shut it down on the media line. Right in front of us, Dylan (camera) and I watched her spit out the instructions at her publicist – Fine, but this is the LAST ONE!
You know…
Sundance is about independent films that need attention and funding. And, um, she didn’t seem to be feeling too sh-tty later on at the parties and the lounges after her official obligations were complete.
So how was our 3 minute chat?
When Emma talks to you, it’s like she’s doing you a favour. You need to appreciate. You need to understand that the world is hers, that she is Next, that her Aunt Julia told her she was special. And Special people get a different set of rules. That is Emma Roberts.
In Homework, Emma plays the most popular girl in school. Freddie plays, obviously, the outcast loner. So I asked her where she, personally, fell on the high school spectrum. Her answer:
“I didn’t go to high school. But I was popular. I picked and choosed (sic) the people I hung out with.”
Dude, it’s even better when you hear her say it live. They’re showing it on etalk tonight. Heads up, gossips. We are catching a new bitch on the rise. This one has SO much potential. And this one will get worse. It will get a LOT worse. It will be amazing.
