It looks like NBC has canceled Maria Bello's police procedural, Prime Suspect. Personally, I blame the fedoras.

I'm only partially kidding. I think the main problem is the viewing public's growing "procedural fatigue." Prime Suspect was a good show, but it was certainly nothing new. It's main attraction was Bello. She was wonderful, of course, as Det. Jane Timoney. But I seriously question the choice of the fedora as a distinguishing quirky affectation for a character who is a tough-as-nails NYC cop. As soon as I saw it in the commercial spots, I cringed.

KAREN CISCO was another really good female-led police series that died an ignoble early death.

Even worse, NBC have also put COMMUNITY "on hiatus" until next year.

Considering how low the show rates it looks like this could be the death knell for the best comedy on TV. It's ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT all over again.

But that's okay, because they've renewed WHITNEY so lovers of tacky, unfunny laugh-track sitcoms will have plenty of entertainment for years to come.

What's funny is, when I saw the post topic I thought, "I never said hello. Too much fedora." Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Dude, I totally agree about Karen Sisco, but I'm partial to Carla Gugino and Elmore Leonard.

Community is consistently one of the cleverest comedies on the air. I'm hoping it'll be back somehow.

I have to admit, though I don't really subscribe to the concept of "guilty pleasures" (because, if you like something, who the fuck cares), Whitney is something of a guilty pleasure for me. Not so much for its star, who I think has her moments, but mostly I love the supporting cast. I didn't think I'd be able to get past the awful haircut, but Chris D'Elia (as Whitney's boyfriend, Alex) is proving to be a really good comic actor. And Zoe Lister Jones, as her buddy Lily, is crafting an oddball character who is more than just punchlines. So, I guess what I'm saying is, yeah, I like Whitney — who the fuck cares...

There are a few good female prodecural crimey shows, or have been, in the past decade. What about "The Closer" with Mrs. Kevin bacon?

That's still on and going strong, apparently.

However, the Holly Hunter-led detective series, which was also on TNT funnily enough, "Saving Grace" was cancelled last year.

Am I missing any?

The Closer begins its last season soon, but there's a spin-off planned with Mary McDonnell though.

Dana Delaney has a new one called Body of Proof that isn't good enough for Ms. Delaney.

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander star in Rizzoli & Isles, and it's another one of those guilty pleasures.

There's yje awesome In Plain Sight on USA with Mary McCormack as a snarky, hardass U.S. Marshal.

Then, also on USA, there's a new show called Fairly Legal, with Sarah Shahi as a former lawyer who's now a mediator. It's not a procedural per se, but it's pretty good,

Again on USA (also home of Psych - USA has it down yo) is Covert Affairs, a kickass spy show starring Piper Perabo.

Whew... Yes, I watch too much TV...

I find it frustrating that easily one of the cleverest comedies on tv gets shelved, but Whitney continues on. I keep expecting Suburgatory and Happy Endings to get canceled leaving me with only Parks and Rec & 30 Rock.

I think the show may have been a bit prophetic about this issue.

On the DVD commentaries (which are brilliant) they're constantly making jokes about the low ratings and getting cancelled.

I'm really surprised and, well, happy that Happy Endings is as good as it is. I was afraid it was going to be another crappy Friends knockoff, but it's pretty clever itself.
