Saoirse Ronan Cast In 'The Host': The Sci-Fi Film and Book For People That HATE Sci-Fi

Did you know that Stephanie Meyer wrote a book other than Twilight? Me neither. Apparently The Host is a book for adults instead of a book for young adults and is a Science Fiction book for people that hate Science Fiction. I’m not making that up by the way, that is the actual tagline on Stephanie Meyer’s official website. So if I do a little math in my head, I come up with this equation: The Host is a book for adults that like reading young adult books and that hate Science Fiction but do like fake Science Fiction mixed in with some romance and the absence of sex. In other words: A+B-C= This is not an improvement on Twilight.

The novel centers on Melanie Stryder, one of the few remaining humans battling against the alien parasites called "Souls" that take over our minds and wipe out our personalities. Unfortunately, Melanie gets captured and the Soul put into her mind is called “Wanderer”. Wanderer however has a hard time fully taking over Melanie’s mind and the result is a split personality battle that probably concludes with the idea that free thought is a good thing. Alright so it sounds kind of Invasion of the Body Snatchers with a little Black Swan mixed in. Luckily though there is a brooding romance or “a love triangle between 2 people” as described by fans and Meyers so there’s that.

In more recent news, The Host is currently undergoing some film adaption planning. Andrew Niccol (Gattaca) is writing the screenplay, Susanna White is directing and Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) has been selected to play the lead. Before you get all up in arms over the fact that we have to endure yet another string of Stephanie Meyer books to film—let me tell you some good news.

After looking at some reader reviews on The Host I have found that the writing stinks (no surprise there) BUT the idea is actually kind of interesting and original. This is good news because a good writer like Niccol can fix the absence of characterization and terrible dialogue. Maybe if the bogus love story and no sex rule is wiped out of the final script, The Host could actually be somewhat decent. PLUS we love Saoirse Ronan and a woman is directing it.

Maybe there is at least some shred of hope after all. Yeah don't worry, it will probably still stink, I'm just working on this new thing I read about called "being more positive". I’m still angry however that now when I talk about one of my favorite films, the 2006 South Korean monster film The Host , I’ll have to be like, “NOT the Stephanie Meyer one”. Life is so cruel.

I have exactly the same problem. I can't talk about 'Avatar' in reference to the awesome animated series AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. Now people just think I'm talking about James Cameron's big, blue FERNGULLY rip-off.

Oh, yeah... and fuck Stephanie Meyers. I wonder how much of her TWILIGHT fortune she tithes to the Mormons' anti-gay campaigns.

so no one in this is going to have a personality. That's what I expected.

So, it is just like Twilight then?
