I dare you to watch this Time Traveling Teens video, commissioned by Mike Huckabee, and not laugh at it's campy awfulness or Reagan's oversized head:

And Adolf Hitler spoke English and sounds just like a GOP candidate complaining about gays, illegal immigration, liberals, and lack of God in the U.S.

Was that about how skinheads and nazis came together to defeat the Jews?

That was just....

So... These are real? They seem like jokes made for American Dad or something. "REGAN WAS AWESOME!" and "NAZIS ARE BAD!"

Like the clarification the girl added at the end of the WWII video about things being different in movies and books. "Yeah, just ignore the fact that the whole of the eastern hemisphere was as war before the US showed up or that we forced American citizens of Japanese descent (or anyone we thought MIGHT be Japanese) into internment camps and stole their property and businesses, everyone in the US helped but those stinking Asians! Because we know the truth!"

I might need clarification on your comments about WWII Jenna.

I'm going to take your comment at face value instead of silly (though if it was meant to be silly please mock me and hit me with stinky fish)

The WWII video made it seem like the US just stepped up and was the good guy from the beginning. We didn't join the war until it had been going for years and the British had been fighting rabidly. We didn't even deliver the finishing blow Germany, that was Russia. What we did was drop two nuclear bombs on Japan and force them out of the fight. (Ok, so we did more and we DID help but we weren't the only people there. It was called WORLD War II for a reason)

Living in Washington State, a place that has always had a massive Asian population I am very aware of the fact that we stuck citizens of Japanese descent (or Asians we decided were of Japanese descent) in literal interment camps across the west of the country. Then we sold their businesses and personal property (including homes) to other people, often times white individuals but sometimes Chinese or Korean. The entire south half of my city used to belong to VERY profitable Japanese farmers, until the attack on Pearl Harbor, then we sent them away and snatched up their livelihoods. Never-mind that their families had been in Seattle just as long us white folk. (Ok, not MY family since my Great-Grandparents immigrated from Poland at the start of WWII but I still feel like I did something wrong)

It is just VERY offensive that they say "It looks like EVERYONE helped!" because of Rose the Riveter. Women got to help, yeah, but POC were still marginalized, in this case especially Asians. I am ALWAYS unhappy when that is left out of the history books and the last line makes it sound like if we WERE to include that tale we would be lying.

Thank you. I just wanted you to go into a little more depth. Yeah, the U.S. was late to the party but our impact on the war cannot be understated. The British were competent in the air for sure but without the US the allies would never have been able to gain air superiority. Also, even though the fleet had been decimated at Pearl, none of our aircraft carriers were destroyed and through our Navy and brilliant leadership we also gained superiority on the sea although those Wolfpacks did kick our ass for awhile. Then there's General George S. Patton who racked up more stats than anyone else in the war and kicked Rommel's ass. Of course, D-Day. The U.S. didn't simply drop a couple of nuclear bombs. Those Japanese were just as brutal as the Germans. The Bataan Death March anyone?

Their actions in no way excused what we did to people who lived here though Sad It really upsets me that it is so often ignored.

And yeah, we did do A LOT of good. I just get tired of "USA WON THE WAR!!!!!" Tongue I like to think of it as "The US and the rest of NOT CRAZY in the world won the war!"

I agree that the Japanese-American citizens were treated unfairly. You're right too that it's overlooked because I don't know much about the internment camps.

I do think it'd be fair to say that the US won a greater percentage of the war but in the end it was a team effort and there is no "I" in team. Happy

As I've said my dad was in the Navy and he was actually in the last 9 days of WWII (he and Mom had me later in life); he says jokingly that the enemy saw him coming and ran.Happy Mom, meanwhile, worked on the homefront and kept everything together, every bit as strong and beautiful as Rosie the Riveter. They told me so many great stories--I've always wanted to write a book but how do you capture so much heroism on paper? I'm just a romance writer--they're the real deal.Happy
