I'm So Glad Korea Invades Hot American Guys In The 'Red Dawn' Remake

The Red Dawn remake will finally be in theatres November 21st, 2012, after several years of sitting on a shelf.

It's directed by Dan Bradley and written by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth, and is based on a 1984 film of the same name.

Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, Isabel Lucas, Adrianne Palicki, Connor Cruise (yes, Tom Cruise's adopted son with Nicole Kidman, now being forced upon us all) and a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth star in the remake, which is about a massive wide-scale invasion of the US by China. Cruise aside, there are some fine-ass people in this group of invadees. This is one good-looking war-torn group of rebels, and they tout The American Spirit along with their biceps and semi-automatic rifles. God Bless America.

I guess China got upset that we owe them billions of dollars that we can't repay, so invaded us to guarantee their loans. Sounds fair. NOTE: In this release, they have updated China to Korea, apparently (see comment from JV Vasquez below).

Unfortunately, the film was completed in 2010 but remained unreleased possibly due to MGM's financial troubles, or possibly because people got very sensitive and thought China would get pissed off about the US making a film that portrays them as an evil greedy Yellow Menace. There was some hype about the movie, and many behind-the-scenes videos were even released publicly before an abrupt halt in all publicity one year ago.

In any case, the new trailer is upon us and MGM is releasing it around Thanksgiving (nothing like a bleak war story about our fading glory to make us thankful for the scraps of dignity we still have), and I personally love any film that employs racial and cultural stereotypes to highlight old fashioned American ingenuity and freedom; it's the reason the original was so successful:

The original starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Jennifer Grey and Lea Thompson and is quite possibly much much better than the remake. Russia, in true 1980s Cold War style, was the villain in the first version. I guess that wasn't racist because Russians look white, so no one got pissed that time:

Wait....

Actually the villains were changed from China to Korean. I remember reading that they were, and than changed to North Korea.

I guess to not piss of China more than already had, and also I guess the growing interest in North Korea.

That's what I read a while back, not sure if that is still relevant.

I mean, aren't we not supposed to be able to tell them apart?

Well maybe most idiots can't, but I try to make an effort.

I read they digitally changed the symbols to that of North Korea, and other things in mid-production.

I just saw the trailer for this a while ago, I'm sorry I do not believe half of these kids have been living in the woods for a couple of months and learning how to fight and survive.

Hell those guys in the original weren't bad looking people, but I mean shit I believed there in the mountains trying to shower in the fucking cold water and living in the forest trying to be self-sufficient. What the hell these kids going to do? Try to call for help on with their iphones?

I was joking.

Actually, in the synopses of this trailer posted around I couldn't find "Korea" stated anywhere, which was why i assumed it was still China. I didn't notice any overt flags, names, or language in the trailer that would indicate that it was Korea, unless I had read that article you posted. Unless they flipped by really fast and I didn't notice them in the trailer.

I was just saying anyway lol didn't mean to sound as if I was real serious. I should have put a face or something. Actually it was pretty fast, but I did see the planes and the symbolism there.

It's okay, Heidi. Tongue

You're still a long way off from the Oscars, which declared that THE DEPARTED was a remake of a Japanese movie when it was actually Hong Kong.

Man, I cringed when I heard that.

Please guys, Asians are good people. Sure they can't drive, but they are good at math and only kick people when they have to.

Vanessa, I totally want people to correct me when I make a mistake, so no worries! Because I make a LOT of mistakes.

yes, Asians are very good at laundry, too, not just the stereotypical stuff.

Well I just meant that comment in general, (people I know would make that mistake about Asian people looking the same) and I realized how that may have sounded afterwards I should have put a face with it haha. Oh no that's cool, there have been other sites did the same thing.

There's a North Korean banner at 1:51.

Making North Korea the bad guy is kind of the dumbest thing Hollywood has ever done.

If you had, you would know that the new Red Dawn is actually the story of a boy in the Ozarks during the Depression who learns about life and responsibility through raising two bloodhounds.

I still don't know if I could watch it again and NOT cry.
