New Poster for 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - and it is NSFW

A new poster for the upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been released, featuring a topless Rooney Mara.

Rooney Mara has the much coveted role of Lisbeth Salander, and appears in the poster along with Daniel Craig, who fills the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

This is about the boldest poster I've seen in quite awhile. The fact that they would be this bold with just the poster tells me they are likely not holding back at all with the film itself. This bodes very well. What are your thoughts? Share them in a comment below!

All I can think is that we won't be seeing that poster state-side.

Though, while I haven't seen the original or read the novel, it gives me hope that the studio won't whitewash the nastier aspects of the story.

Exactly! By the film "being bold" I didn't exactly mean "Yay nudity!" (though, admittedly, "Yay nudity!") - rather, that they're being so risque with a poster implies that they won't pull any punches in any given situation in the film.

I'm thinking some certain websites will soon be doing stories about 'Rooney Mara's hot rape scene!'

"So tell us, Rooney, just how naked are you in this scene?"

Now that I know the movie has tits in it, I will have to see it. Thank you poster maker for alerting me!

But seriously, Rooney might edge me on to see this. I don't quite see what Fincher can do to make the movie all that interesting in light of the original, considering it's very plot driven. I guess he could make it more "extreme", but the original already had the rape and nudity, and they do have to get an R rating.

It's a kind of brilliant marketing move actually. They will get attention and kudos (like this) for making this poster, and it will be seen where appropriate, but there will also be a sanitized version, which will be seen and talked about as well. Which will lead to conversation about the original poster. Oh, and the movie. This is a movie attached, right? I hope it doesn't suck and ruin the poster.

That was my instant gripe.

I fucking hate this poster because there is no reason only the chick should be naked. If her nudity is based on the sex scene they have together, they should both be naked. It's fucking blatant blatant "the woman's boobies" objectification and catering to a male audience.

I've been mulling over this poster (not in that way!) since my last post and changed my mind about it. The poster seems to be the latest attempt to cram down our throats how edgy the film will be, while catering to more mainstream audiences with a familiar, safe hero image.

Just look at Daniel Craig pose and clothes. I know he plays a journalist, but that's a pretty nice suit and shirt he's wearing in a rumpled manner. And check out the glare. Now all you have to do is photoshop a pistol in either hand, then add a bow tie draped over his neck, and you have the new James Bond poster.

As for the nudity, the US poster covers Mara's exposed breast, as expected. In hindsight, I think the pose was a simple marketing ploy to generate interest in the film, like the discussion we're having now. Face it, the studio knew it would have to censor the image in some way, at least here in the States, but not before it was "leaked" onto the internet.

Add in the "bootleg" trailer, which appears to be the studio's doing, and I'm beginning to think we're being played here.

David Fincher will do this re-make justice i reckon. Huge fan of the original, not read the books.

I actually thought this poster was pretty cool. The character Lisbeth Salander is very proud of her nakedness, plus she looks well hard with her tattoos and piercings! haha

Trent Reznor will make this film sound amazing and the rest of Fincher's team will make it look amazing, not that the first was shite tho...

I think the point about it being better if Craig was shirtless is well is a very good one; that said, I still like the poster!

That was my instant thought upon seeing the poster as well. There's no good reason for her to be naked in the poster. I also think if it had been both of them being naked, it would be an addition to their relationship instead of a reminder that yeah, she's going to be raped, and here, look see what they're raping - woo hoo! If Craig's not naked (again, why isn't he naked, too - would it kill them to throw us some candy every now and then?), there's no point to the poster except for sensationalism. That pisses me off, especially considering what happens to her character. Basically, I agree with everything you said, SuperHeidi.

Whatever the case, it is serving its purpose. It is getting attention.
