Another year and another young girl faces demonic possession.
The trailer for The Possession is out, giving us a glimpse of one of the horror films scheduled for scary movie season 2012. There are some familiar beats to the story: a young girl unwittingly gets involved in something a little demonic, there are infestations of exotic bugs, doctors are just mystified on how to help, and then the girl's eyeballs turn a weird color and all hell breaks lose.
However, the trailer reveals that The Possession does take a slight turn that's not commonly taken. It looks as if the titled possession is a little literal; there is a special little "someone" growing inside the young girl, and I'm sure it's going to want to get out and see the world around the third act. Does anyone remember the 1978 film The Manitou ?
Familiar beats aside, this might be a fun August film. Check out the trailer below and see if you agree. I really do like the "fingers in the throat" trick. The Possession stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick and is scheduled to hit theaters on August 31, 2012.
