Haha, I thought that movie sounded interesting and then I saw that "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" and then I was like yeah, not even a rental.

When the trailer for it came up in front of Expendables the entire crowd was laughing their asses off.

lmao I like some of his movies, especially "Lady in the water" yes i like that movie "Unbreakable" is a great movie I think, but "The Happening" sucked some major balls and the shitting acting by Mark Walberg killed me.

I mean the concept of "The Happening" maybe could of worked in a novel form, because it was kind of an interesting idea, but seriously seeing that shit on screen and plants making people kill themselves? lol It was just completely bogus.

I loved all his movies up to Signs. I have never seen a director fall so far from Grace in my lifetime. He went from the golden child who could do no wrong to a laughing stock in record time.

Ugh. Signs did it for me with it's huge plot holes. Aliens are highly advanced and intelligent enough to travel thousands of light years, but don't know how to use a doorknob? They never bothered to invent clothes? Water is like acid to them, yet they choose a planet where 70% of the surface is covered with water? (Not to mention that it sometimes rains?)

Mel Gibson as a Reverend? Laughing out loud Tongue

Signs was, frankly, retarded. I remember walking out of the theater feeling so confused as I had been under the assumption I was walking in to see a movie made by a competent director.

Shyamalan should never be allowed to direct again after the utter balls-up he made of THE LAST AIRBENDER. The source material is so rich and amazing and he completely fucked up every single aspect of the adaptation.

But the most frustrating thing about him (as this video shows) is not just that his movies are getting worse and worse, but that he is incapable of acknowledging it. He still thinks everything he makes is genius.

I liked Signs, because well kind of reminded me of "Night of The living dead" and M. Night said he used it as a influence and some other old school horror/sci-fi movies. I like the feeling of isolation and you're trapped well that appealed to me, but yeah making the aliens stupid was lame lol.

"The Village" was interesting, but sucked so bad in the end and I was like "Wtf thanks M. Night for making a crappy ending and bogus twist!"

I could see reasons why they might not realize our water is dangerous to them...so signs didn't bother me...I wanted to like Lady in the Water-but the whole film is Night saying, "Suck it critics of my work!" (I mean, how blatant do you need to be with Bob Balaban's character?"

I refused to see the village. The Happening had great moments of dread (raining bodies and the like)...but they were in a terrible film.

Yeah visually "The Happening" had some great moments like when they are driving into a neighborhood and everybody has hung themselves like the atmosphere is spooky. But he could of found another alternative what was making people act like that or if he was going to do plants like I don't know he could of executed it better. But the acting was so terrible, I was just like "I can't believe he thought this was ok!" and the writing was just so bad and how Mark Wahlberg character recovered from the incident was just balls. I liked how the ending was bleak, but yeah that movie was just balls.

I don't get that. It's not "our" water - it's just water. H20. It's everywhere in the universe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water#Water_in_the_universe

It's bone-headedly reasonable that any interplanetary astronaut would make a study of a new planet's atmospheric makeup before landing and walking around naked in order to find out if, hey, maybe they need protective gear.

Signs isn't even consistent with it's horribly stupid "water" crap. Water is everywhere on earth - very much so in the air itself as humidity. If water was violently acidic to these aliens, then they should have been smoking right when they walked out of their stupid spaceshit.

I hated that movie.

I did enjoy Signs...don't hurt me. I thought it was funny and had some pretty good moments of suspense.

The whole water thing was ridiculous to me mostly because maybe the simplest truth that the scientific community agrees on is that life cannot exist without water so how can water be harmful to a life form? Of course there is the distinct possibility that we don't know jack and that our rules and laws of physics don't even apply to alien species. Maybe everything we perceive is wrong. Haha.

As for The Village I don't know how inbreeding would appeal to anyone. Didn't they see Southern Comfort or Deliverance?

Here is his latest movie, he just did the "story" but didn't write the screenplay or directed it kind of looks interesting, but still don't' know if I want to watch people bull shit in an elevator that may have the devil.

Actually, it is our water. There are chemicals we have pumped into our water that and atmosphere that little of our water is JUST H20. Just sayin'.

Of course...everybody's different. I know people who cannot ignore the logical flaws in Signs...but have no problem the logical flaws in High Tension...whereas I don't really care about the logic flaws in Signs, but the inconsistencies of High Tension? Gives me an aneurysm. Smile

There's videos of Shammy's name getting boo-ed and groaned at when this trailer played in cinemas. I guess those people payed to see THE LAST AIRBENDER.

I'm sure Shyamalan would just say "Well, they love me in Japan..."

Shyamalan used to be able to craft set-pieces with the precision of a master. Just look at a movie like SIGNS; there's at least five brilliant set-pieces in that movie.

What the hell happened?

Oh man, Signs is a masterpiece compared to High Tension. I liked the movie at first but the twist destroys the whole thing. It's so completely illogical once the girl becomes the actual killer. What a mess. Maybe Aja and M. Night have a lot in common.

I hate movies that are bad and sometimes I love movies because they're bad.

What!? I love High Tension I thought that movie was awesome lol.

Speaking of "Well they love me in Japan" I was reading there was massive outcry from the Asian community of using White-American Actors in "The Last Airbender"

The casting of White actors in the Asian-influenced Avatar universe triggered negative reactions from some fans marked by accusations of racism, a letter-writing campaign, and various protests.[35][36] "To take this incredibly loved children's series, and really distort not only the ethnicity of the individual characters but the message of acceptance and cultural diversity that the original series advocated, is a huge blow," Michael Le of Racebending.com, a fan site calling for a boycott of the martial-arts fantasy, said.[37] As a result of the casting, the Media Action Network for Asian-Americans urged a movie boycott for the first time in the organization’s 18-year history. "This was a great opportunity to create new Asian-American stars...[nonetheless,] I’m disappointed." fumed Guy Aoki, president of the organization.[38] After a casting call specifically looking for “Caucasians and other ethnicities,” Shyamalan explained that “Ultimately, this movie, and then the three movies, will be the most culturally diverse tent-pole movies ever released, period.” Furthermore, Paramount provided a statement about the casting choices, "The movie has 23 credited speaking roles — more than half of which feature Asian and Pan Asian actors of Korean, Japanese and Indian decent. The filmmaker’s interpretation reflects the myriad qualities that have made this series a global phenomenon. We believe fans of the original and new audiences alike will respond positively once they see it." The studio also took the initiative to screen the film to boycotters at Racebending.com after the 3D conversion was complete.[39]

I have to say I have seen some of the show and its pretty good I'm not that all familiar with it, but I agree no way they should of used White-American actors in that. What's even more ignorant Jackson Rathbone even said, this , "I think it's one of those things where I pull my hair up, shave the sides, and I definitely need a tan. It's one of those things where, hopefully, the audience will suspend disbelief a little bit." Well I guess we might as well bust out the blackface and bring that back? I mean yeah that's great M. Night wants to be multicultural, but when you're working in a established world and not sticking with the source material it seems apparently he had a lack of respect for the material and wanted to create his own world. I mean I don't know it just depends how well its executed. But this seems like it wasn't executed very well.

If you want to watch a movie about people stuck in an elevator that's actually GOOD, watch Blackout. Sort of predictable and a little slow at times, but it's got good character development, and Shamalyan was NOT involved! lol

I DO hope they make The Last Airbender book 2, but WITHOUT that idiot. Maybe a real writer will use the actual show as a reference not just the vague idea of the plot.

That video's funny.

Me and my friends were alienated by Shyamalan when The Village came out. The twist in that film just felt like he was lying to us. You get invested in this world and then all of a sudden the world is fake. That's lame. I wanted my money back so bad after I saw The Village.

My best friend, who's Filipino, was really annoyed at him for changing the ethnicity of the characters in The Last Airbender. Are we still at the place where white people won't go see movies starring people of color? I don't know. I'd like to think we've moved on from that.

He screwed up so many of the fundamental aspects of the series with that first film, I can't see how the films could go anywhere but down.

That first film should have been three hours long and have included Suki and the Kiyoshi Warriors.

Shyamalan has no fucking clue what he's doing. I shudder to think what 'inspired' bullshit he has in mind for introducing Toph.

Well apparently he had the Kioshi warriors in the original cut, but for time reasons he cut their sequences.

I think a GOOD director and writer (shoot, use the cartoon's writers!) could salvage the movies.

I don't think racism has anything to do with it. Show me a critic who bashes Del Toro. No, to me the critical drubbing is justified because his movies legitimately suck. Sorry, just my opinion. As far as The Village goes I think it's ridiculous because of the twist so watching again will only make me notice even more things about it that would bother me.

I was a big fan of his in the beginning.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a great show and I don't like many cartoons. It's not the overall plot that is wrong. For me it started with the casting and I just couldn't get past it. I haven't bothered to watch the movie. I think I'd rather take my chances with The Prince of Persia.

Yeah, he shot the whole sequence with them but cut it because, according to Shammy, it was "too distracting". Because we all hate pesky things like character development and cute chicks kicking ass...

Fans who saw the preview version of the film (the now-infamous 'punching the fish' version) claim that at least 30 minutes of footage was cut before it was released. This footage included a full prologue much like the one that opens the show which, let's face it, does an infinitely more interesting, clear and graceful way of setting up the world than Shyamalan's wall of text and bad voice-over.

Also, it turns out Sokka took the brunt of the cuts. All of his humour and character development (like the aformentioned Kyoshi Warriors section) were cut from the film.

I blame that shoddy 3D conversion for a lot of the problems with this film. But that's a rant for another day.

Dudddddde. If Shyamalan had long blond locks, a steely chin, and a Nordic complexion to rival Thor of old Asgard, it would have no bearing on the fact that The Happening sucked absolute balls.

I would think they would have concerned themselves more trying to prevent an African-American from becoming President of the United States then worrying about a movie director. Hypothetically speaking even if his movies didn't suck it's not as if he would have ever reached the ranks of the Spielberg's, Cameron's and Jackson's. He was never that good even when he was good. The single greatest director in the history of film who stands alone and untouchable had a critic write that he should have been shot.

As far as black director's go there's Antoine Fuqua who is a different breed altogether. He got an athletic scholarship for basketball to college, he looks like a football player, where he studied electrical engineering and when he got out he decided he wanted to be a filmmaker.

He's got a very sharp mind for film and has made Training Day, King Arthur (which is awesome) and Brooklyn's Finest among other things. I almost expect him to get an Oscar for best director and picture one day.

I don't think racism has anything to do with it. He just blew his load and ran out of good ideas.

You said Guillermo hasn't given them a reason to bash him. You're right because he's brilliant and probably never will. He is becoming an unstoppable force in the entertainment industry with great films, books and soon cartoons. Next year he's going to be in the studio recording an album playing the Spanish guitar.

As far as Romero fuck him. I'm done. The 20 minutes I barely made it through of Diary of the Dead will be the last time I watch anything by him.

Dario Argento is finished in my book too.

I still love you George A Romero! lol but he needs to chill with the zombie movies unless, UNLESS HE DOES SOMETHING REALLY REALLY AMAZING!!! I have been a fan since I was a little girl seriously for real and I have all of his Zombie movies and I have my "Night of The living dead" poster signed by almost everybody except for Karl Hardman because he died Sad

I was a bit disappointed with Survival of the Dead I was just talking to Ash about it. Here it goes.

Eh it was ok, but I was kind of disappointed I seriously thought that was stupid that the girl solider was masturbating in the open where her ass could of been zombie food. Plus I don't know why he choose the idea trying to get zombies to eat animals that is not entirely new concept. Because in the original Night of the living dead there was a zombie that ate a mouse and they were eating insects. Plus in the original Dawn Of The Dead script they had a dog that got eaten up by the zombies near the end. I mean maybe the humans probably didn't know about this and maybe my ass is being nit-picky lol, but George could of done something and I felt like he was repeating himself. Plus that lead solider was a complete asshole and was acting totally bi-polar and was like "What the hell are you doing!?" and was making irrational decisions and he just didn't make any sense. The acting was not all that great and the movement was slow. Plus the whole zombies are smart? Again he is repeating himself. I think he should just move on for a while and do something new and great because "Martin" was a great movie' "Creepshow" amazing. He helped produced the remake of the Crazies was fantastic and was at one time write the screenplay I don't know if the writers did still borrow from some of that. Monkey Shines I think is highly underrated and Jason Beghe is wonderful in that.

I'm still waiting for Diamond Dead the musical I talked to him about it and he said even though it is "dead" he still like to do it he said "Well see" So I would just like to say don't be talking about my Grandad like that lmao

You know I like Land of the dead, I thought to me, it was more true to the spirit to the other Dead movies than Diary. I mean I don't know why people were like "Ugh I hate that movie" just because it had a higher production vaule and big name stars and was going against Romero indie roots and I know he had a hardass time making it I read and heard from insiders that the studios wanted to control everything he wanted to do. I mean Diary was alright, but it was slow as balls, plus the acting and writing was kind of eh. I mean it wasn't horrible, but some of the things that they were doing just didn't make any sense. I liked how it kind of ended on a somber note.

I really love Del Torro his early stuff is really amazing Cronos is great.

Cronos is great as is The Devil's Backbone. I think Pan's Labyrinth is a work of genius. As for his studio output Blade II is my favorite of the series and I like Mimic and can't wait to see his director's cut. I didn't like The Hellboy movies either but I'm not interested in the source material. Fans of the comics seem to like the movies well enough. I'm looking at At The Mountains of Madness to be his Magnum Opus. Can't say that I've ever been very interested in Frankenstein.

I might be being too harsh on Romero. Who doesn't love the Dead trilogy? Day happens to be one of my favorite horror films. I saw Land in the theater and I guess it was ok but I've never had the desire to watch it again. Diary though just pissed me off.

Wolves, if you like M. Night and his movies more power to you man. I happen to think that Uwe Boll has been making some good movies lately. I'm in no position to pass judgment on anyone else's taste in movies or music. I really only had a difference with the prejudice comments. I like to hear people's differing opinion because maybe I need to change my own.

You speak, I assume, of either Orson Welles or Chris Seaver.

I didn't like Land of the Dead, and I hated Diary and Survival of the Dead with a fury.

I also am not a Hellboy fan, but mostly because I think the story and dialogue is lame. The effects are pretty cool. del Toror is pretty much mostly style and not as much substance, which is what some people prefer. I need more substance and am not as into style. So, Del Toro is not my thing. I know his last several films looked awesome, but they made zero sense.

Oh! I'm curious what everyone in here will think of Hatchet II. FYI there are some cameos by journalists. Journalists who will be reviewing the film. Like in Survival of the Dead. Just like that.

You don't say...

But who's more at fault, the filmmaker who offers journalists set visits and cameos (and even an audio commentary on the DVD), or the journalists who accepts and thinks there's nothing wrong with it?

I liked the first HATCHET and I do think the second one will be a fun splatter-fest.

I liked Hatchet quite a bit, mostly because I thought the gore was really fun and there was some genuine comedy going on.

I think the filmmakers are cheapening the system by courting reviewers.

I will say I know Adam Green and I had a reviewer, Matt Funk, review Hatchet II because frankly I don't know if it is a conflict of interest to review a friend's films. I think it is. I know I guiltily do so occasionally, and I often become friends with women after I review their films.

But in general, that kind of thing is against my ethical integrity, whatever there is of it.

Heidi, I don't think it's wrong to review a friend's film. From what I gather the horror community out in LA is pretty close-knit so some overlap there seems impossible to avoid.

But I do think it's about disclosure if you actually have something to do with the film on a creative or financial level. Even something as minor as a cameo. To agree to that means you want to be a part of this movie, so how could you be objective about the end result?

Survival of the Dead was....frustrating. The masturbation scene killed the whole movie for me, as did the deus-ex-machina twin introduction.

I would never ever call a movie like Unbreakable a masterpiece. It's okay at best. The Sixth Sense was a good movie, and I still enjoy watching it. M. Night has just gotten too full of himself and doesn't realize psuedo-spiritual-revelation movies are just not working. At all. He ruined The Last Airbender by neutering the characters' true, well, character. The Lady in the Water wouldn't have been bad if Night hadn't made it so pretentious. I thought it would be interesting because of the metafiction-esque subject matter, but it was just too pretentious.

I was thinking about this same issue last night, Cash. My friend barbara's movie screened at Shriekfest Film festival, and I went, but had another person actually review the film because I am afraid I would just love it BECAUSE I am her friend. I don't know how much of me being into the film would be just because I like HER, you know? I am afraid a lot.

It turns out he likes the film, which makes me happy, but I wanted to avoid that situation since I bitch about other people reviewing stuff they are close to. Hypocrisy, and all that. Wink

Heidi, next time you talk to Adam tell him I fucking love Frozen which is the first of his movies I've seen. Not that he'll care. Smile Seriously though when I heard the premise before he went into production with it I was already dying to see it. These are some actual fears I've had run through my mind and to my knowledge have never been put on film. Very well written. Still not sure if I wanna see Hatchet since I've heard it's a stupid slasher film, even if it was intentional. I've had enough of stupid slasher films that piss me off. It's like after the incredibly horrible Scream every slasher made was trying way too hard to be clever which resulted in stupidity and now they're just full of stupidity. Not saying Hatchet actually is like that but I cringe at the thought of watching a slasher flick now after growing up with so many awesome ones that I love.

And those directors you mention are pretty good but I was actually referring to Stanley Kubrick and one critic's reaction to Dr. Strangelove.

Dr. Strangelove is genius. Was the person who hated it a communist?

No, actually he was a red-blooded American who thought Kubrick was a communist.
