The New Mad Max: 3D, Double Feature, and Delayed Six Months

Mad MaxA reboot of the post apocalyptical classic Mad Max is to be underway! Director George Miller, who also helmed the original back in 1979, has said for years that he intended to create a new chapter for the dystopian hero, and now it's really going to happen.

A series of announcements have recently broken out on the film's progress. The first bombshell was that Miller plans to make two films instead of just one, filming them back to back for rapid release and titling them Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa. Then there was word that the films were going to be shot in 3D, utilizing new developmental technologies. The final development somewhat manages to deflate any excitement the previous two comments might have raised; the entire project is facing a six month delay before they finally start shooting in February of 2011.

Previous announcements include Charlize Theron's involvement with the project, likely as Mad Max’s wife or love interest (at least that's my guess). There is also a bit of wild speculation on the size of the film’s budget, with numbers as large as 100 million (!) being tossed around. But likely the most interesting is the man tapped to play Mad Max himself – Tom Hardy. The name may not immediately ring a bell for all of you, but it may just become household given more time. Hardy has already established himself as an amazingly transformative actor in Bronson, in which he played the title character. Check out the before and after photos below – yes, it’s the same guy – and go check out Bronson on Netflix if you're up for a brilliant character study. If you’re worried that the second photo looks too beefy to fit Mad Max, fear not; the actor has recently said in interviews that he plans to drop 30 pounds for a lean and mean look more suitable for the role. Tom Hardy can also be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, due to hit theaters later this month.

No word on who will be playing Goose.
