On August 31st I posted an article on my blog and the head of the company I wrote about contacted me in the comments section - he was unthrilled. So I wrote a semi-retraction and added it to the post.
I've been writing the blog for a few weeks and I'm already annoying people with way more money and power than me - that's not a good sign. If anything happens to me (not necessarily because of the robot article, but because of the blog in general), know that I tried my best, and send my regards to Broadway.
I read both of your articles and I agree with everything you've said. The truth is that nobody is going to be honest about their true motivations and intentions when it could hurt marketability and profit. That thing does sound frightening to me. Maybe it really is nothing more than a $300 toy at this point but what is the next generation going to be like or when somebody else makes a more sophisticated version. We don't need more technology, we need less. The truth is that it is completely out of our control at this point and there isn't a single person who understands enough about all the various systems and components to fix something if it goes wrong. These days all the various parts of a system are designed by completely different people who don't know anythng about any other part of it. Everyone laughed at the Y2K thing and sure every computer system crashing at midnight on January first 2000 might have been a ridiculous concept but the fact of the matter is that that very thing could happen on any day. The stock market system crashed for 12 hours before it was able to be fixed and if it hadn't been we would have been plunged into a more dire financial catastrophe then we're in right now. Things need to be simplified. We need to unplug.
Yeah, I used to be into conspiracy theories when I was younger all except the one about the moon landing being faked.
I was tempted to make a completely paranoid comment on there just to stir up some flames but figured you've lost enough sleep over this as it is.
This is not a dream... not a dream. We are using your brain's electrical system as a receiver. We are unable to transmit through conscious neural interference. You are receiving this broadcast as a dream. We are transmitting from the year one, nine, nine, nine. You are receiving this broadcast in order to alter the events you are seeing. Our technology has not developed a transmitter strong enough to reach your conscious state of awareness, but this is not a dream. You are seeing what is actually occurring for the purpose of causality violation.
