Kimberly Peirce To Direct Remake of King's "Carrie"

So, there WILL be a remake of the horror film Carrie and it will NOT be directed by the nicest guy in horror, Mick Garris. But the good news? It's going to be directed by Kimberly Peirce.

Prom SUCKS

Peirce is best known for the awesome, tragic, compelling, and just plain... unbelieveable based-on-reality movie Boys Don’t Cry which launched Hilary Swank's career as a real actress and not just "one of the girls in the original Buffy movie."

This new script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is supposed to be more "faithful" to Stephen King's original book as well as more "grounded" than Brian De Palma's 1976 film version.

The one thing I know fans will ask themselves is this: Why isn't Mick Garris directing? Garris has a long history of directing Stephen King adaptations, especially versions of the stories that are more grounded and faithful to King's original visions (see his The Shining and his hours-long The Stand).

If you're a Carrie fan, you should also check out the version in which Angela Bettis starred as the title character as well as The Rage: Carrie 2 directed by Corman School grad Katt Shea.

Of course, the best way to brush up is to watch De Palma's version, to which Peirce's will undoubtedly be compared:

I could see another Carrie remake if the original was a foreign film. Mainly because stuff in other languages suck. Wink

Dude, the original was made in the '70s. That's the same as a foreign language.

For the MTV generation of today, anything before the 90's pretty much doesn't exist. Abe Lincoln might as well be an imaginary character. Does he have a Twitter account? I rest my case.

Mick Garris probably isn't directing this probably because people have finally realized that he's a hack. Seems like a righteous dude and all (and a fan).

I think the only interesting approach to Carrie at this point would be to do it as realistically as possible. Apart from the other 2 movies, there are the Carrie ripoffs too (like The Spell, Initiation of Sarah, Prom night 2, etc.), so the path is well worn by this point.

Actually, yes. Yes he does.

Well, that would explain why he's the most popular president.

Honestly, he probably has a bottle of whiskey up there. I say good for him. You spend a long day fighting slavery, you need to unwind. Not only that, but he's hip to modern technology despite being long dead. He's obviously a cool dude. I'm gonna try to Friendster him now. U rock big Linc.
