Just quit my job!

I just couldn't take it anymore.

I was working for my sister. I love my sister. In order to preserve my relationship with my sister, and to be able to love her and be there for her,

I needed to tell that bitch I fucking quit.

Plusses: can have good relationship with her, and no longer have to go in.

Minuses: must find new job.

All in all, I feel pretty good about it. I might wait a whole week before looking for a new job. Wohoo!

What were you doing for her? What was your job exactly? Was it the video store?

She owns her own company selling plastic doll hair to collectors and artists. I was doing customer service, packaging orders, shipping.. you name it! Working for a relative can get weird.

especially when she calls you on a saturday and tells you you have to work sitting on the floor from now on because her dining room table has some scratches on it and she wants to keep her house nice, even though working on the floor makes your back hurt.

lol wtf ok so you're suppose to do all that stuff on the floor? Is she serious? Yeah I would quit to because that's ridiculous. I remember my bitchy friend when they had their own trucking company wanted me to work for her. I was so glad I didn't because eh that would of been such a bad mistake the way she is and she is such a nazi.

yeah - it is impossible to do that work on a floor. Seriously.

I just reached my breaking point and had to quit today...

I'll worry about money... tomorrow? lol.

Working for a person close to you just gives you one more thing to fight about.

I was working two job and had to quit one of them last week.

The one I quit was an okay job with really low hours. The job I kept is a lot more hours but it sucks and I do not like or trust the people I'm working for. But at this stage I need the money so I had to go with the one I don't like.

Ahhhh... the life of a wage-slave.

I might be in the same boat. I've been forced to work on-call catering at a local college for about two years, thanks to the damn economy (I hate you, Wall Street!). I recently transferred to a different university that promised more hours and high pay, only to have the assistant manager change the schedule THE DAY BEFORE IT TOOK AFFECT and cut two of my shifts. When I volunteered to cover for employees who couldn't work their scheduled hours, she refused without telling me why.

I don't really want to have to start looking for another job right now (Oregon's "official" unemployment rate is over 10%), but I don't need to be dealing with this shit.

God, I wish my practices were still open and flourishing.

california is over 10%, I think, at this point (if you add in all the people unemployed who don't collect unemployment, it is probably actually more like 20%) and the housing market is now crashing again plus last week the stock market here went down a ton, for god knows what reason.

The only people keeping their jobs and getting paid are the government union workers who can't get fired, get giant pensions and benefits, and get a larger hourly wage for doing menial labor compared to a private sector worker doing the same job. Their union contracts make it virtually impossible to fire them, even when we have no funding for the school districts, the post office, the DMV, and other places where these people actually WORK.

The result is a crazy state where government employees do less work because their projects have less funding, but still keep their ungodly benefits and contracts, paid for by tax money. These jobs, ideally, should also be cut right now to balance out what taxpayers pay in relation to what they get.

But no such luck.

Sometimes I hate unions, and sometimes I love them. Wish they were more flexible and less likely to bankrupt us when times are tough.

OR that I had a union govt. job. I'd be okay with that alternative as well.

The unofficial unemployment rate is over 20% here as well. Our mass transit lines are cutting back on runs and eliminating entire bus routes, yet the people driving are earning an ungodly pension and it "can not" be reduced by anyone. Add to that, the fare is going up by 5 cents, yet the transit authority is asking voters to approve a levy for new buses! Sure, they say it's to help older riders (the new buses aren't as hard to board, I guess), but a lot of these riders have lost bus service thanks to the line cuts.

It's surprising how far out of touch from the community some government agencies can get.

I'm on unemployment. I got let go about a year ago.

I applied at a pizza place that pays $8.50 an hour and they are only offering about 20 hours a week. Even that job was competitive, as in there were a lot of people applying to that job. I have a job interview tomorrow which looks promising.

I could NEVER work with my family. Props for working with your sister at all.

Recessions suck. I hate Wall Street.

Wanda Sykes said that the bail outs that the government paid the corporations costs each US citizen $7,000. Fucking wealthy assholes.

I'm trying to find a gig at the university I attend (getting my masters) as a tutor to undergrads, we'll see how that goes. Ideally, a full-time position at school would be wonderful, it'd let me go to school for zero tuition.

That's probably not a possible goal at this point though; it is a public school, and the wallet is tight for our state govt. I doubt they're hiring new employees even if one leaves.

Good luck with everything Heidi. I know you've been unhappy at the doll wig job for a while - I hope you can find a decent job at the university.

Hopefully, you get a job at the University even if it's a long shot.
