The battle to release a new adaptation of Snow White surges onward as Relativity Media confirms who their own Evil Queen will be. Yes, matching up with Universal's pick for Charlize Theron is none other than.....America's Sweetheart Julia Roberts?
In case you're late to the party, there is a cinematic war going on between Relativity Media and Universal. Both studios are racing to get their adaptation of Snow White released first--both aiming for a Summer 2012 date. Universal's film will be called Snow White and the Huntsman and has reportedly been cast with Theron, Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen. While camp Relativity's film is titled The Brothers Grimm: Snow White and has only cast Roberts as the queen. Reportedly, Melisa Wallack has signed on to write the screenplay.
Julia Roberts is an interesting choice to play the sinister queen and surely one that seems to stand quite pitifully when matched against the acting chops of Charlize Theron. We know Theron can play evil--but Roberts on the other hand? I think the closest she got to evil was when she was that bitchy celebrity in Notting Hill. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she can't do it--I'm just saying it's a surprising choice. Her horse smile alone will take at least 10 hours in make up to cover and I secretly don't like her very much.
I'll be curious to see how Roberts handles this role, but for now....consider me on camp Universal.
And by the way-- two Snow White's in one summer really? Is that a good idea for anybody? I love a fairy tale adaptation as much as the next person, but I don't need to see two pasty broads getting it on with some dwarves in one summer. I do have things to do after all.
You say Julia Roberts is the other evil queen? I thought she was the other white meat. Maybe she's the other evil white meat...or the other evil white queen? Dammit. I'm confused again. I cannot keep up with modern Hollywood.
