Ian McShane and Ray Winstone have been cast as the final dwarfs* for Snow White and the Huntsman.
The two join the existing cast of dwarfs including Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Stephen Graham. Ian McShane has the honor of playing Caeser, the leader of the dwarfs.
The likes of Ian McShane filling the role of a folklore dwarf is just a little reeling. If only – if ONLY – he could be cast with dialogue such as…
...or...
...or...
...or...
...or (my personal favorite)...
…or…well, maybe that’s enough? As if we could ever have enough of Al Swearengen quotes. I digress; Snow White and the Huntsman is also starring Kristen Stewart and will be directed by Rupert Saunders, and is planned to hit theaters on June 1, 2012. Why 'dwarfs', you ask? Think it should be 'dwarves'? Well, I’m sticking with dwarfs as this form is fundamentally the more correct, especially in this context. 'Dwarfs' is the proper old-fashioned plural of the word. The term 'dwarves' was coined, or at least established, by Tolkien in his much beloved stories, and he specifically used this term to make the word better match the plural of elves as well as differentiate his creations from the dwarfs of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Yes, that’s the real title of Disney’s film – not the often misspoken “…and the Seven Dwarves”. Look it up!
Very funny. I LOL-ed heartily.
