Yes, Diablo Cody Is Going To Direct

And it's a comedy!

Lamb of God is the name of the script that Diablo Cody will be directing. She wrote the story, about a deeply religious woman who loses her faith after a serious plane crash, and goes to Vegas to (presumably) become a stripper. because, you know, Diablo Cody was once a stripper. It's, like, her "thing" and it was really cool in 2007.

A company called Mandate Pictures will be shelling out all the money for this movie, and Cody is also going to executive produce.

Kahane says, "It's an honor to be part of Diablo's transition to director."

Mandate also, like, paid to make Juno, Cody's award-winning story about funny unwanted pregnancy.

I'm not sure how I feel - on the one hand, I want to hate Cody and everything about her. I hated Juno, I thought it was shallow and vapid, and I thought Jennifer's Body was one of the worst horror films I'd seen in a long time, predominantly due to the intensely affected dialogue and really poorly-created characters. That was directed by Karyn Kusama.

Am I experiencing female-hollywood-backlash-hate? Do I hate the idea of Cody directing because she's a woman? Or is she genuinely a second-rate storyteller? God, I hate to think it isn't sour grapes. If it is, Brook, I apologize. You can shoot me. God, I hate Juno.

I really hope there's a precocious teen in it! We need more flicks with precocious teens.

No you hate the fact that she is a second-rate story teller that people have lauded and proclaim that she is a genius. That's what I hate! And man I can't sit and take the stupid marketing and PR campaign about her again. Because I almost wanted to kill anybody that talked about her during Jennifer's Body thinking she did such a big justice to woman's horror thinking that has never been done before. That there was no woman's horror literally that she practically invented it! No you didn't Diablo you didn't do shit!

I think she's talented, but there are other female directors out there I would far rather see get her press and attention; but, darn it, they never swung topless around a pole. :~

Juno feels like actors standing around, reading from a snarky blog about an invented teenage pregnancy. The screenplay seems fundamentally incompetent, like a rough draft that would get torn apart in a first year screenwriting class (of course it won the Oscar; go figure). It comes across as something to be read moment to moment, rather than something to be turned into a film with an arc, with characters who speak actual human dialogue, etc. In closing, I think she has talent, but it's a talent for blogging.

So, I expect Lamb of God to be totally incompetent, and maybe Heidi is annoyed that a competent woman (or man even) could've had their movie funded instead. Having said that, if I eventually see the movie and it doesn't suck, I'll happily point that out. I don't have anything against her, but, on the other hand, it's hard not to resent someone at least a little bit when they achieve the highest award for something they suck at.

I like Diablo Cody, but that's just me. Lots of others liked JUNO. But et me tell you, it was very lonely being one of the only critics to give high marks to JENNIFER'S BODY.

Uncle Ned... Remember...many of Juno's critics felt the same loneliness about Juno. They were hating it while general consensus was positive.

I didn't hate Juno (and frankly found the complaint about the fact that the lead character not getting an abortion vacuous) or Jennifers Body... But they were flawed films.

Don't feel bad. I too enjoyed Juno and Jennifer's Body...though I must admit that when I re-watched Jennifer's Body recently, I saw a lot of flaws I didn't notice the first time. But I still enjoy Juno. I think the performances carry that film.
