Did anyone else see the amazing Community Christmas episode? It was especially funny if you have any knowledge of Glee. Even if you don't, it's a hilarious half hour (well, 22 minutes) of television from a wonderful show that's likely dead. Poor Community — too cool for the room that is network television... "Boopy doopy doop boop sex."

This show has been taking good-natured jabs at GLEE since it started. I guess it makes sense that they would now outright parody it.

As someone who would rather peel their own face off than watch an episode of GLEE I can't say how accurate the COMMUNITY team are ("What are regionals?") but I loved the character work in the songs.

For me COMMUNITY and PARKS AND RECREATION are the funniest, sweetest comedies on television.

It's pretty accurate. Right down to the haircut on the piano accompanist. And, yes, regionals.

My favourite acting moment form the episode is Shirley trying to resist the kids who can't sing about Jesus. Just the look on her face as it gets worse made me laugh so hard.

Shirley is truly television's sweetest bigot.

There are so many great moments. Britta's song from her heart! Troy and Abed's rap!

Oh boy, Gillian Jacobs deserves huge props for that. Not least for wearing that brown leotard, which hid nothing (although she did look great in it).

I haven't seen Community (I don't watch much TV), but this reminds me of the show Sledgehammer (86-88 or so), which is a Dirty Harry spoof. The show got shuffled around a lot and had bad ratings, and it aired opposite different popular shows during it's two seasons. Amusingly, there would be little jabs (and not really good natured) at these popular shows they were running against, sprinkled into different episodes. Here's 3 I can think of (I'm paraphrasing):

Sledgehammer walks into a bar, and everyone runs to the bar after the bartender yells out "hey, Miami Vice is on!"
Hammer shoots the TV.

Hammer: "He was sitting in his chair watching Mr. Belvedere and his heart suddenly stopped. I can't imagine the horror. And to die on top of it!"

Hammer walks into a male strip club and an old lady is stuffing bills into his briefs. She proclaims to everyone "that's my son! I'm so proud!". Hammer remarks "I haven't seen anything this disgusting since the Webster Christmas special!"

It's a running joke throughout the show. I'm just mentioning it because I don't think I've seen another show make fun of its direct competition which doesn't fall under the umbrella of "general pop culture references". Maybe it's actually not that uncommon nowadays (maybe only as a gentle ribbing).

Possibly the best song was the "baby boomer Santa" number...
