300 Sequel Confirmed! Zach Snyder Drafting Script to Focus on 'Xerxes'

Zach Snyder is a popular guy around these parts, what with the release of the frenetic and fun Sucker Punch trailer. The man isn't slowing down - word is out that he's hard at work on a new screenplay for the sequel to the glossy high action Spartan frenzy that was 300. This time around, Xerxes is getting the spotlight, and the film's title carries his name.

Snyder had the following to say about the project: "This movie follows Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which coincidentally happens on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae (the battle shown in 300). This one starts off with a quick retelling of the why of the Persian wars. It starts off at the Battle of Marathon and then it goes back to Themistocles finding out that Persians are invading again - and off we go over to learn a little bit about why Xerxes is the way he is."

Snyder added that studio interest has been confirmed and that they are moving forward on Xerxes. There is no word yet on whether Snyder will direct, though this might be an easy assumption. Good times!

I admit I didn't see Spirit - though that was by choice. The trailer looked *horrible*. The buzz seemed to confirm it. Being that I didn't need to review it, I passed.

Zach has a pretty good eye though, and I did actually enjoy 300. If Zach is directing, I think it might be a good time - if Frank Miller is directing, as he did Spirit, then you're right - bets are off.

Frank Miller seems to finally be indoctrinated into Hollywood film-making with the utter disaster that was THE SPIRIT.

So, I can imagine that he would make a new, completely useless piece of material that would cash in on the success of 300.
