Rue McClanahan Beloved TV actress Rue McClanahan, best known for her oversexed, promiscuous and outgoing menopausal portrayal of southern belle Blanche Devereaux on the 1980's TV series The Golden Girls has passed away at the age of 76 from a stroke. We'd like to take a moment to remember Rue from her beginnings, in horror films, like 1961's Five Minutes to Live, in which she played a small uncredited role; the strippers-getting-killed-by-a-maniac TV film Angel's Flight; the episode Daisies of James Coburn's TV-horror series Darkroom; Jeff Lieberman's slasher Blade; and the sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. Even in 2009 Rue was appearing on the Biography Channel's Celebrity Ghost Stories. We'll miss this charming and funny actress...	06/03/10
	R.I.P. Louise Bourgeois French-born American artist Louise Bourgeois died Tuesday, June 1 2010 in New York City at the amazing age of 98 from a heart attack. This influential artist didn't get her first gallery retrospective until 1982 (she was born in 1911) and was best known for her spider sculptures, sexual imagery, strange creatures, violence, fear, and immense emotion. "My memories are moth-eaten", she wrote recently, in a crabby hand, next to one of her last drawings.	06/02/10

Pretty/Scary editor Heidi Martinuzzi (me) gets mentioned in this ChicagoNow list of the top 13 influential women in horror history along with contemporaries Jovanka Vuckovic (journalist), Denise Gossett (film festival director), Devi Snively (filmmaker), and Debbie Rochon (actress) and icons Kathryn Bigelow (director), Debra Hill (producer), Anne Rice, Ida Lupino (actress/director), Karen Walton (screenwriter), Maila Nurmi (Vampyra), Stephenie Meyer, and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein.) 	Chick Flick director Nicole Holofcener rants about 'chick flicks' Nicole Holofcener is primarily a comedy director, with movies like Friends with Money. Her new movie Please Give is out now. Nicole tells Salon.com her feelings on being a director of 'chick flicks', and what that means for her career and her films. 'There was one magazine that called this movie a "bitchy chat-fest chick flick." And it was a positive review! Like, what guy, and what intelligent woman would ever go see that? It's frustrating.' Chicks flicks, in her opinion, are seen by the industry as: 'By women, for women, about women, with women. Like, it's just a big vagina movie. 	R.I.P. Dede Allen Academy Award-nominated film editor Dede Allen has died at her Los Angeles home days after having a stroke, according to her son, at the age of 86. She was the first film editor to receive sole credit on a movie for her work and the first film editor to have a solo credit appear on screen alone at the beginning of a film. Allen, who was nominated for Academy Awards for Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Reds (1981) and Wonder Boys (2000), also worked on The Hustler (1961), Bonnie and Clyde (1967), and is known for creating an innovative approach to imagery, sound and pacing in American films.	04/21/10
