Audrey's Door (2009) Written by Sarah Langan
Harper - Available Sept 23, 2009
Audrey’s Door is the latest horror novel from Sarah Langan, who gave us The Keeper and The Missing, and it channels Polanski’s The Tenant along with a little bit of Rosemary’s Baby (which are both listed as inspirations in the preface) along with a creepy almost ‘Henry James’ attitude towards New York City and its inhabitants. Langan has a great talent for character development if, despite the intensity of the plots, good tends to triumph over evil (I never like that) and things get wrapped up nice and tidy in the last chapters of her novels. Nevertheless, Audrey Lucas is a creation with whom a chick can really identify; she’s insecure, complex, and caught up in a severely screwed up and macabre situation in her new apartment building where the other tenants are more than a bit odd.

Autopsy (2008) Review #1 Directed by Adam Gierasch
Written by Adam Geirasch, Jace Anderson, E.L. Katz
Featuring Robert Patrick, Jessica Lowndes, Michael Bowen, Jenette Goldstein, Robert LaSardo, Ashley Schneider
2008, www.Horrorfestonline.com
Now, I actually know the people who wrote this film, Adam and Jace. I like them. Especially Jace. But I really don't like their film. At all. From the bad sets, the really awful nurse uniform, the cheesy, never-fully-explained plot, to the lack of cohesive narrative and any real scares (or actual autopsies of any kind) "“ I just didn't like it. Autopsy is part of the Horrorfest After Dark 8 Films to Die For, out on DVD March 31st, and it seems like each year the films get worse and worse. Autopsy is the directorial debut from Adam Geirasch, who just wrapped a remake of Night of the Demons starring Tiffany Shepis and Bobby Sue Hall (For After Dark Horrorfest IV, next year, mayhaps?). Jace Anderson, his writing partner, and he, wrote the scripts for Tobe Hooper's Mortuary and The Toolbox Murders remake and co-wrote Mother of Tears with Dario Argento. But their exposure to magnificence didn't seem to rub off on Autopsy, which they co-wrote with sexy horror filmmaker Evan Katz (Homesick).

"Why I Loved Autopsy" by Paula Haifley
In the interest of full disclosure I will admit that I, like Heidi, am friends with the writers and director of Autopsy. She didn't like it. I thought it was as fun as a barrel of serial killers. Here are ten reasons why you should give Autopsy a chance:...

Baby Jane? (2010) Directed by Billy Clift
Featuring Billy Clift, Jeff Dylan Graham, Matthew Martin, J. Conrad Frank, Heklina, Mike Finn, Drew Todd, Vincent de Paul
Reviewed by Amanda Rebholz
As a long-time fan of the old movie greats like Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, it was only natural that I would be excited to see a film that was a gay parody/homage to the classic Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? with more than a handful of “Mommy Dearest” references thrown in for good measure. The film Baby Jane? was set to screen its world premiere in San Francisco in June of 2010, but upon hearing about the charity organization Youth First Texas and the sponsorship event being put on by DOA Bloodbath Entertainment, screenwriter/director Billy Clift decided to allow the Fears for Queers GLBT Film Festival to show the film three days prior in an exclusive premiere. I was a lucky member of that audience, and I have to say that this was a standout film in many regards...

Back from Hell (AKA Ex inferis) (2011) Written and Directed by: Leonardo Araneo
Featuring: Roberton Zibetti, Marco Gandolfi Vannini, Aran Bertetto, Giovanni Guidelli
Reading a review of the latest direct-to-DVD found footage movie is about as exciting as watching one, as many of these features contain the same inherent flaws and weaknesses. So, to buck the trend, I'm starting my review of Back from Hell on a positive note.

Backless, Strapless, & Slit to the Throat: A Femme Fatale Anthology (2009) Edited by Betty Dobson
Featuring stories by Betty Dobson, James S. Dorr, Krys Douglas, Everett C. Gavel, Jr., Gary R. Hoffman, Gail Kavanaugh, Gail A. Laursen, Brenda Roberts, Gretchen Wilsenach, Diana Woods, and Phoebe Wray
2009, Inkspotter Publishing
I've been really excited to get my press copy of Backless, Strapless, and Slit to the Throat. The entire anthology focuses on the most interesting, and sexy, aspect of noir writing: the femme fatale. However, I was surprised to find that not all of the stories in BS&STTT are actually 'noir'. In fact, horror, fantasy, and surreal poetry about dark, seductive, evil, and extremely dangerous women are also included. Like any anthology, the writing styles and levels of sophistication vary from story to story, but the overall message stays (relatively) true; there are some bad, bad women out there;
