Shauna MacDonald ('The Descent', 'The Descent 2')

Interview by Stacie Ponder

Neil Marshall’s 2005 film The Descent was a runaway hit with horror fans who’d been hungering for some mature, gory fare in the wake of countless tepid remakes. The film recounts the tale of six women on a caving expedition gone awry; mind you, "awry" means they run afoul of a race of cannibalistic cave-dwellers and most of the women die horrible deaths. You know how it goes.

Sarah, played by actress Shauna MacDonald, experiences the worst year of her life over the course of the film, to put it rather mildly...

Women Rondo nominees that deserve it; 'Final Girl', Jovanka Vuckovic, 'Medium', 'American Scary', and more

The weirdly male, 50's-ish monster-kid-oriented Rondo Awards are happening yet again, and while no one really knows who would nominate almost unheard-of blogs like Obscure Hollow (really? last review on Dec 20, 2009? Is it abandoned?) or newbies like Dollar Bin Horror (seriously? two-paragraph, badly-written reviews?) there are some women nominated who really deserve a look before you vote!

First off is our pick for best blog, Final Girl, run by staff contributor Stacie Ponder. Funny, mostly sarcastic, silly, and much more enjoyable than the films reviewed, Final Girl has our official endorsement. There are also surprising nominees for best article, best TV episode, and more that you need to check out before you vote because they show that women have taken a really effective part in this year's horror phenomenon...

Marilyn Burns ('The Texas Chainsaw Massacre')

You Know Who Rocks? Marilyn Burns.

By Stacie Ponder

"Are you sure you don't mind talking in here?", says Marilyn Burns as she opens the door to her hotel room. What Marilyn Burns obviously fails to realize is that if, upon my asking her for an interview she had said, "Sure, we can talk. You sit over there in that garbage dumpster whilst I sun myself over here. Oh, and I'll be throwing rocks at you while I talk - you know, for fun", I still would have jumped at the chance.
