'Realms of Fantasy' Magazine seeks submissions for August 2011 “Women in Fantasy” issue

Realms of Fantasy Magazineis planning an all-women-authors issue for August 2011, and they're looking for submissions from women and regarding women for nonfiction, art, and fiction! This is a great chance to publish that fantasy short story with a female lead character, or your essay about female superheroines or your Red Sonja fan art. Feminists, fantasy fans, and anyone who loves women and fantasy are encouraged to apply.

Locus and SFSite's picks for scifi/fantasy lit of 2009 are mostly men

SFSite (the 'home page for science fiction and fantasy literature') and Locus Magazine (the website for the 'leading news and review magazine for science fiction and fantasy') have posted lists of sci-fi and fantasy literature they decided were the 'best' of 2009. Not surprisingly, SFSite mostly chose titles written by men. Locus did a little better.

Decadence, luxury and opulence. The aristocracy of the 18th-century really knew how to party and dressing up was one of the most important aspects of the culture at the time. If you didn’t look good you didn’t really have a future in society. Expensive gowns, elaborate jewellery and finely made accessories were key if you wanted to be somebody in France... well, at least until that revolution got started but hey, it was fun while it lasted. Even now, the image of Marie Antoinette is one of global renown and she remains an icon of wealth and fashion for the ages. The iconic image of the 18th-century woman is still one of familiarity today in movies and media long after the fall of high society all those years ago...

Ellen Smit's Fantasy 'Eep!' set for a February 2010 release, watch the trailer

EEP! is a new fantasy film directed by Dutch filmmaker Ellen Smit. A little girl (played by a real person with some kind of spectacular dwarfism) is found in the woods who has wings instead of arms. She's also about the size of a bird. This weird Where The Wild Things Are-ish fantasy is going to have a theatrical European release in February 2010. Jennifer Thym's 'Lumina' gains audience recognition; complete series online now

Jennifer Thym's original Hong Kong fantasy web series Lumina jumps from the little screen to the big screen at this past weekend’s Clockenflap Music & Multi-Media Arts Festival held at Hong Kong’s Cyberport. An estimated 3,500 festival attendees had the opportunity to view the Saturday and Sunday screenings of the first Lumina webisode, which to date has been available exclusively online.
